How Simultaneous Charging works?

Electric vehicle charging technology is evolving rapidly to meet the needs of electric vehicles on the road. Such as power-sharing capabilities to maximize charging options for more drivers. One of the newer technologies is called simultaneous charging. How do the simultaneous EV chargers work and how fast can they charge?

How does simultaneous charging work?

Some fast-charging equipment can share power between two different charging dispensers; however, simultaneous charging equipment allows a single charging dispenser to share power between its connectors.

Usually, a charging station may have two connectors, but for many chargers, only one is operable at a time. The other connector shuts down when the available power is going to the one in use. For simultaneous chargers, power can flow to one or both ports. All of the available power is initially sent to the single port in use. As more drivers pull up and plug in, the power is divided between the ports.

What do you need to know about simultaneous charging?

Dynamic power-sharing allows for power to be allocated to the vehicles that can make the most of it. The result is a group of vehicles that can move through the chargers faster. Simultaneous charging and power sharing between connectors is an effective way to maximize the energy a single charging dispenser can deliver.

But it can also prolong charging time if multiple EVs are connected to the same charging station or share the same power source. Even if chargers are separate, they might still share one power source, meaning that each charger's output decreases as the others are used.
